ountant in 1975 and in 1980 was a founding partner in the predecessor firm to Mountjoy Chilton Medley LLP (MCM). Under his leadership, the firm grew from one office with a staff of approximately 15, to the eighth largest accounting firm in the Southeast region. It opened multiple offices in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio employing approximately 370 people. In August 2023, MCM was acquired by Cherry Bekaert, a top national accounting firm, to bring new and innovative advisory services to the region.<\/p>\n

Mountjoy has been a leader in advancing the accounting profession, serving on the American Institute of CPAs Board of Directors and as president of the Kentucky Society of CPAs Board of Directors. He has participated in civic organizations across the region including past service on the board of directors of the Louisville Area Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of Louisville, Greater Louisville Project, Louisville Orchestra Foundation, and Louisville Library Foundation. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Gheens Foundation, Inc., and is a co-founder of Soccer Holdings LLC, a professional soccer holding company that owns Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC.<\/p>\n

Created in 1969, GLI\u2019s Gold Cup is the organization\u2019s most prestigious award and has only been bestowed 25 times. The Gold Cup is not automatically presented each year but is awarded periodically in recognition of truly extraordinary contributions.\u00a0 Previous Gold Cup recipients provide guidance throughout the selection process and must unanimously confirm a nomination. The most recent winners of the Gold Cup include Sandra Frazier, Alice and Wade Houston, Bill Samuels, Junior Bridgeman, and Sam Swope.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am honored to be recognized by my peers in the business community with the Gold Cup. The past recipients of this award are friends, colleagues, and people who have inspired me throughout my career, and it is an honor to share this recognition with them,\u201d said Mountjoy.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s Gold Cup will be formally presented to Mountjoy at GLI\u2019s Annual Meeting presented by Baird on January 16, 2024. Each year, the event is the largest convening of businesses in the region. In addition to the Gold Cup Award, three organizations will be presented with GLI\u2019s Silver Fleur-de-Lis award<\/a>, and the event will be keynoted with a fireside chat between Seth Waugh, CEO of the PGA of America, and Bill Carstanjen, CEO of Churchill Downs Incorporated.
