The report summarizes key vital signs of the economy including unemployment and employment rates, labor force, job openings, and employment changes across industries, as well as an update on GLI\u2019s regional economic development project pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\u201cOur region started the year in a strong position, and we have continued that strong momentum through the first quarter. We currently have 29 projects in our pipeline that could bring more than 3,500 jobs to the region and more than $1 billion in economic investment,\u201d said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO of GLI. \u201cWe are looking forward to working with our regional partners to close these deals and continuing to bring more projects to our pipeline to produce more investment, jobs, and opportunities in Greater Louisville.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Key insights from the new report include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advanced manufacturing continues to be a major opportunity for business attraction and expansion. 35\u00a0 percent\u00a0of projects in the pipeline are in advanced manufacturing and logistics and 81.47 percent\u00a0of the 3,570 potential jobs fall into that industry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The national labor force finally exceeded pre-pandemic levels during the first quarter of 2023, however the labor force participation rate remains lower than pre-pandemic levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Despite higher interest rates and a sustained period of above-normal inflation, both national and regional unemployment rates remained low at 3.5 percent\u00a0in the first quarter of 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Most industries in the region have seen employment growth in the past 12 months, with information seeing six percent growth since last year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Louisville&#8217;s total employment at the end of the first quarter was at the highest level of any point within the past ten years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWhile businesses across our region continue to face challenges related to workforce shortages and inflation, major indicators show our economy is in a strong position at the beginning of this year,\u201d said Clark Welch, GLI\u2019s director of economic development. \u201cWhile national discussion of a looming recession later this year continues, the economy is currently not showing signs of a major slowdown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To read the full report and see supporting graphs, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greaterlouisville.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ED-Quarterly-Newsletter-2.pdf?utm_source=GLI&amp;utm_campaign=e27e63a658-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_06_25_07_58_COPY_01&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_c9bc98ab8b-e27e63a658-\"><strong>click here.<\/strong><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">###<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New data shows no signs of economic slow-down Louisville, Ky.
