{"id":7781,"date":"2021-08-11T15:04:56","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T19:04:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greaterlouisville.com\/?p=7781"},"modified":"2021-08-19T11:22:14","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T15:22:14","slug":"infrastructure-bill-passes-u-s-senate-in-bi-partisan-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greaterlouisville.com\/advocacy-and-legislation\/infrastructure-bill-passes-u-s-senate-in-bi-partisan-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Infrastructure Bill Passes U.S. Senate in Bi-Partisan Vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday afternoon, the US Senate passed the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.npr.org\/documents\/document.html?id=21031305-infrastructure-bill\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">$1.2 Trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act<\/a> that would provide much-needed improvement to our nation\u2019s roads and bridges. The legislation represents the largest federal investment for infrastructure projects in more than a decade and drew bi-partisan support in a 69-30 vote.<\/p>\n<p>The bill directs $550 billion in new federal spending toward infrastructure projects across the country and will renew and revamp existing programs that are set to expire at the end of September.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the bill is the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$65 billion to expand high-speed internet access<\/li>\n<li>$110 billion for roads and bridges<\/li>\n<li>$55 billion for water and wastewater infrastructure, including funding to replace all of the nation\u2019s lead service lines<\/li>\n<li>$21 billion for cleanup of superfund and brownfield sites<\/li>\n<li>$73 million for modernizing nation\u2019s electric grid and expanding the use of renewable energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funding for the investments in the package are slated to come from a combination of funds, including redirecting unspent federal COVID-19 pandemic funding.<\/p>\n<p>The bill now moves to the House of Representatives, where the measure could prove much more divisive.
