In their last two days the General Assembly kept busy. Day 29 of 30 was spent overriding vetoes. By the end of the penultimate day of session the legislature had overridden all 29 bills that the Governor vetoed. Day 30 was spent getting the remaining priority bills across the finish line. The end of session was sentimental for many as the Capitol will undergo renovations that are scheduled to take 6 years. Stay up to date on all things state legislature on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greaterlouisville.com\/category\/advocacy-and-legislation\/\">Policy Distilled<\/a> and X <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GLIAdvocacy\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">@GLIAdvocacy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workplace Health and Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After being vetoed by the Govenor, <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/record\/25rs\/hb398.html\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 398<\/a> received final passage in the last week of session. This legislation seeks to align workplace safety and health standards with the federal standards. This will make compliance easier for businesses that operate in multiple jurisdictions. GLI was proud to work with coalition partners to advocate for this policy change.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manufactured Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/record\/25rs\/hb160.html\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 160<\/a> received final passage last week. This legislation bars local governments from treating manufactured housing differently than other housing projects for zoning purposes. By enacting this change, the legislature guarantees that local government and its residents will have access to all options for housing as they work to address shortages across the Commonwealth. GLI continues to work alongside elected officials to address housing shortages and see that no option is off the table as we work to make a dent in access to affordable housing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Multi-Family Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After receiving the Governor\u2019s veto during the recess, <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/record\/25rs\/sb25.html\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 25<\/a> received final passage in the last week of session. This legislation would change the definition of \u2018building\u2019 to include multi-family housing over 48 units for the purposes of industrial revenue bonds allocated for municipal projects. GLI is pleased to see the General Assembly taking the recommendations of the 2024 Interim Housing Task Force in addressing housing shortages across the Commonwealth and looks forward to continuing this momentum in the 2026 Session.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2025 Kentucky General Assembly is now adjourned!
