WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO COMMIT TO THIS SERVICE?
From my experience with NAWBO, I can tell you my years serving on committees, the board, and then ultimately the executive committee have been extremely rewarding. I've learned a lot about leadership, how organizations work, made great connections in the community, and raised awareness of my business brand, as well. It is a great challenge that also creates a lot of good works in the community.
THE LEADERSHIP TEAM SOMETIMES SEEMS LIKE A "CLIQUE" - HOW WOULD I EVER GET IN?
Everyone is welcome! We are looking for women interested in rolling up their sleeves and getting work done. Yes, we are tightly connected - you can't NOT be connected after working hard together for years or months in a row. That doesn't mean we aren't interested in bring in new talent, new ideas, new energy. If you are even a LITTLE interested, please contact me.
IS IT A HUGE TIME COMMITMENT?
Huge? No, not really. Big? Sometimes, yes. There are differing levels of time commitment for different roles. The committee can help guide you toward a role that makes the most sense for you and your business - we are interested in ENGAGING you, not burning you out!
I'VE NEVER SERVED ON A BOARD - I SHOULD HAVE EXPERIENCE, RIGHT?
One of the great gifts NAWBO gave me was a chance to learn hands-on about leadership and how organizations work. I was utterly clueless, but willing to try - and that is all NAWBO is looking for. We have some experienced leadership in place to support those who might be new and looking for the chance to learn. Don't let that discourage you!!
I'M NEW TO NAWBO - SHOULD I WAIT OR GET INVOLVED?
Don't let being "new" get in the way - sometimes the newer, fresher perspective can be helpful. Getting involved in committee work or a board position is the BEST way to make your NAWBO membership the most valuable one you have!!
